Data Analytics Intern- Office of Data Management

Internship Summary:  
This internship will provide training and practical experience in applied database systems, data dictionaries, meta-data management, data cataloging, data analytics, cloud data lakes, dashboarding and reporting, and web services. The experience will benefit scholars planning careers in the data or analytics industry, specifically in the public service and government sectors.  

Duties and Responsibilities:
Scholars will assist with the following: 
  • Define and implement Extract Transform Load (ETL) jobs on a wide variety of data sources and apply algorithms that reveal value to analysts and stakeholders. 
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional and non-functional business requirements. 
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.   
  • Build and maintain dashboards leveraging business intelligence tools including, but not limited to, Power BI, Tableau, and Alteryx. 
  • Ensure gold standard dashboards providing key metrics are well accurately maintained.  
  • Related duties as required. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • SQL skills.  
  • Experience in programming and scripting languages including, but not limited to, Python and Java. 
  • Familiarity with a variety of datasets, structured, semi-structured and unstructured, etc.  
  • Knowledge of performance optimization surrounding data delivery and process automation. 
  • Knowledge of business intelligence software (including but not limited to Tableau, Alteryx, PowerBI, Alteryx) and application of such software. 
  • Competent at manipulating large data sets of time-series and intermittent data. 
  • Familiarity with how data can be used in statistical analysis and data modeling. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work independently with little supervision to deliver on-time quality products. 

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Student classification of junior, senior, graduate, or recently graduated is required. 
  • Two Semester commitment is required. 
  • Declared major field of study from the list below is required. 
  • Student must be in good academic standing. 
  • U.S. citizenship is required. 
  • Candidates are required to successfully undergo a criminal background check and complete CJIS certification which includes fingerprinting. 
  • This is an in-office position. Students are required to work onsite in the FL[DS] office in Tallahassee, FL.  

Compensation:
Hourly Rate: Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.  
Housing and Travel Expenses: Considered based on circumstance. 

Fields of Study:
Data Science, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Operations Management, and related programs will be targeted for background and understanding in database systems, programming, analytics, dashboarding and statistics.
